Reed City boys coach resigns

REED CITY — Reed City athletic director Kris Griffin announced last week boys basketball coach Dean McGuire has resigned his position and the district is searching for a replacement.

No other details were provided. McGuire was unavailable for comment.

McGuire coached Reed City to a Class B district title in 2015.


Division 3 regionals at Shepherd

SHEPHERD — The Reed City boys and girls teams had individual runners at the Division-3 regional meet. For the boys, Brandon Wirth was 19th (17:41.02), Calvin Rohde 23rd (17:52.94), Noah Blythe 42nd (18:51.93) and Heaven Hurley 66th (20:31.42).

For the girls, Leigha Johnson was 57th (25:36.35), Hailey Duchene 69th (28:22.68) and Hana Ondrus 70th (29:47.64).

Various girls were unable to compete because of injuries, coach Susan Saladin said.

The Pine River girls were sixth. Olivia Thompson was 29th (21:57.13), Anselma Barnett 32nd (22:06.45), Anna Lindquist 38th (22:45.90), Kelsi Charles 41st (23:01.69) and Grace Beebe 52nd (24:34.67).

The Pine River boys were 12th. Mark Geer was 33rd (18:28.80), Sam Pentces 70th (21;17.34), Austen LaFrances 81st (24:27.96), Wade Fullerton 82nd (24:28.08), Kaden Darrow 83rd (24:32.11) and Maverick Holmes 87th (26:45.44).

“We definitely made progress with numbers,” first-year Pine River coach Andi Bogart said. “We had some new girls come out. Last year, we were 11th in our region. This year, we were sixth. We’re excited going into next year.”
