COLLEGE BASKETBALL Holmquist at Trine ADA, Ohio \u2014 The Trine men\u2019s basketball team defeated Ohio Northern 78-72 Saturday afternoon to give the Thunder their best start in over 30 years. The victory extended Trine\u2019s winning streak to eight games and gives the Thunder a 10-1 overall record, the team\u2019s best start since the 1983-84 season. Jared Holmquist, of Reed City, notched his second-straight double-double and seventh of the season to lead the way. The senior scored 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out a career-high six assists. Holmquist has notched double-doubles in four of the last five games. Kullman at Mid Michigan HARRISON\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Kristin Kullman, of Evart, is a 5-7 freshman women\u2019s basketball forward for the Mid Michigan Community College at Harrison. In one of her best games in December, she scored 11 points and had five rebounds in an 83-37 win over the College of DuPage. Nelson at Saginaw Valley UNIVERSITY CENTER \u2014 Pine River\u2019s former two-time all-state basketball player Kassy Nelson is playing her freshman season at Saginaw Valley State University. Nelson has seen action in seven games so far and is averaging 2.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 6.0 minutes per outing. She\u2019s shooting 42.9 percent from the floor and 40.0 percent in 3-pointers. Saginaw Valley is 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Cardinals play at Ferris State at 1 p.m. on Jan. 30. Lockhart at Cornerstone GRAND RAPIDS \u2014 Former Reed City basketball standout Emma Lockhart, is playing her junior season at Cornerstone University. Cornerstone is 8-7 overall and 6-2 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Lockhart has played in all 15 games and has started in nine. She\u2019s averaged 24.7 minutes and is shooting 27.4 percent from the floor, and 56 percent in free throws. She\u2019s averaging 3.5 points and 2.9 rebounds a game. She has a 1.4 assists over turnover ratio. COMPETITIVE CHEER Evart Invitational on Saturday EVART\u00a0\u2014 Evart\u2019s competitive cheer team will be hosting an invitational at the high school gym on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. Earlier this week, Evart coach Marty Pattee said Farwell and Pine River will be among the participating teams. The Wildcats have participated in one meet so far this season. They also host an invitational on Jan. 27.
