SOFTBALL

Manton 10-9, Pine River 4-10 (May 8)

MANTON — Tailor Charles had three hits and three RBIs in the nightcap for the Bucks. Carleigh Trowbridge doubled, singled and drove in three runs. Kourtney Brock, Taylor Warner and Chelsey Terburgh each had two hits.

Brock earned the win, striking out nine in seven innings. Charles had two hits and an RBI in Game 1, while Erin Millen hit a two-run home run.

Beal City 17-3, Pine River 2-0 (May 5)

LEROY — In Game 1, Erin Millen was 2 for 2 with a triple and a RBI, while Kyla Johnson was 1 for 2 with a RBI.

In the nightcap, Taylor Warner was 2 for 3, while Millen and Chelsey TurBurgh were 1 for 3.

Pine River 10-11, Mesick 0-5 (May 7)

LEROY — Dana Hill allowed three hits and struck out four in five innings to earn the win in the opener Thursday. Erin Millen had two doubles and two RBIs, while Kyla Johnson doubled and singled.

Kourtney Brock picked up the win in the nightcap, allowing one hit in seven innings.

Carleigh Trowbridge was a home run away from the cycle, while Millen tripled, singled and drove in three.

GIRLS SOCCER

BIG RAPIDS — Reed City’s soccer team lost three games in the Big Rapids Invitational on Saturday. The Coyotes lost 1-0 to Sparta, 8-0 to Big Rapids and 7-1 to Fremont. Each game consisted of 20-minute halves.

Reed City is at Big Rapids Wednesday.

TRACK

Pine River wins

LEROY — Pine River traveled to Lake City in Highland Conference competition (May 5) and also faced Marion.

For the boys, Pine River beat Marion 127-35 and Lake City 84-78. For the girls, Pine River beat Lake City 94-69 and lost to Marion 86-76.

Senior Colten Rawson took first in the high jump, long jump, and 4x800 relay, and second in the pole vault for Pine River. Cole Gingrich took first in the pole vault and 100 meters, and second in the long jump and 200 meter. 

Senior throwers Mary Ware and Robyn Peppey went first and second in the shot and discus respectively for the girls while Cheyanna Rizor was first in the 800 meters and 4x800 relay, and second in the 1,600 meters and 3200 meters.

Sophomore Anna Lindquist ran the anchor leg in some strong finishes for the 4x400 and 4x800 relay, and was second in the 400 meters and pole vault. 

“The boys came out and did what they needed to do to maintain their perfect Highland Conference record going into the final week of head to head competition,” Pine River coach Eric Gebhard said. “It was another close one with Lake City pushing us to the end. The girls were running some incredible times, especially in the middle distance and runs and relays. I asked them to step up their competitiveness in those events, and they responded by running strong against some very good competition.”
