CSAA meet

STANTON -- Big Rapids and Reed City wrestlers competed at the Central State Activities Association Gold Division individual meet at Central Montcalm on Saturday. Reed City had four wrestlers earn all-conference honors with Kellen Haney placing second at 160, earning him first-team honors. Bryson Hughes at 145, and Austin Fowler at 189 both placed third, and Mark White placed fourth at 152, with all three earning honorable mention all-conference honors.

Pine River

LEROY -- Pine River posted 196 points in the combined Mid-Michigan/Highland Conference meet on Saturday to finish first overall in the league.

Taking first for the Bucks were Caden Mys (135), Austen Wuesten (171) and Brock Nelson (189). Second places went to Elijah Cooper (215), Matt Treiber (119), Jordan Koetje (130), Phil Rigling (140) and Thomas Hooker (145). Finishing third were Seth Duncan (125), Andrew Stevens (152) and Cam Hemboldt (160). Jordan Nelson (103) wAs fourth. The Bucks host Hart on Wednesday in team district action.

Evart

Evart was also in the Highland Conference tournament last weekend. Cole Hopkins was first at 160, Reese Ransom first at 152, Darren Gostlin third at 119, Dominic Malicki-Lancaster third at 285, LJ Clark fourth 189, Nick Robinson fourth at 215, and Sam Bailey fourth at 171.

Reed City vs. Pine River

REED CITY -- Reed City hosted a double dual on Wednesday and lost 51-24 to Pine River and 72-6 to Reed City. Austin Fowler got the only RC win vs. Hart. Fowler, Mason Johnson, Kellen Haney and Anakin Andrus were winners against Pine River.

"We saw two quality teams here tonight," Reed City coach Roger Steig said.

For Pine River, Matt Treiber, Jordan Koetje, Andrew Stevens, Phil Rigling, Austen Wuesten and Brock Nelson went 2-0.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Manton 67, Pine River 48

LEROY -- Manton led 33-22 at halftime to post this win over Pine River (3-7, 5-8) in Highland Conference play on Friday. Marcus Jurik had 14 points and six rebounds, Sasha Huffman had nine points and six boards and Lane Ruppert had nine points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Evart 33, Pine River 32

EVART -- The Wildcats held back the Bucks in a Highland Conference battle on Feb. 4. The Wildcats also edged the Bucks 38-34 earlier in the season. The Bucks raced out to a 15-6 lead after the first quarter. They were up 20-15 at halftime and 24-22 after the third. But Evart had an 11-8 scoring edge in the fourth.

Kara Henry had 11 points for Evart and Addy Gray had 10. Payton Fulmerhouser and Madi Sparks had 10 points apiece.

"We trailed by one point with 3.8 seconds left," Evart coach Matt Tiedt said. "Kara Henry was fouled on a 3-point shot as time expired. She hit the first free throw, missed the second and hit the third to give us the win."

Evart is 4-6 in the Highland and 7-6 overall. The Wildcats play at McBain NMC on Wednesday.

Pine River is 2-9 and 3-12. The Bucks play at McBain on Feb. 12.
