Central Montcalm 64, Reed City 34
REED CITY -- The flu bug hit Reed City's girls basketball team which had basically only five players in the lineup in Tuesday's CSAA setback.
Central led 64-24 at halftime and 48-22 after the third quarter.
"We virtually played just five kid," Reed City coach Tim Beilfuss said. "We have several out with injuries. We have the flu gong around and a couple of injuries.
Three starters were out with Taylor Harrison, Alaina Stein and Paige Lofquist, plus another key player, Christina Malakanich.
Alison Duddles had 10 points while Lily Andres, Jayna Kailing Paige Williams and Mackenzie Vandawater had six apiece.
"We havre to get healthy," Beilfuss said. "We've been playing well until we got the sickness."
Reed City (2-4, 2-7) is at Fremont on Friday.
Pine River 47, Roscommon 27
Pine River had quarter leads of 11-6, 23-13 and 33-20 in this Highland Conference victory on Jan. 21.
Kendra Montague had 14 points followed by Madi Sparks with 11 points, eight rebounds and five steals, Haley Wanstead with 10 points nd Payton Fulmerhouser with eight.
Houghton Lake 54, Pine River 51
LEROY -- The Bucks fell to 3-9 overall and 2-7 in the Highland with this narrow home loss to Houghton Lake (6-3, 8-3) on Thursday.
"Once again, we were right there," PR coach Paula Justin said.
Payton Fulmerhouser, Daria Lindquist and Haley Wanstead had 11 points apiece. Kendra Montague had nine and Madi Sparks eight.
Crossroads 32, Marion 11
"I have to give Big Rapids Crossroads all the credit in this one," Marion coach Matt Lagrow said after this recent game. "We had been playing really good basketball as of late, and leading up to the game, I thought we matched up pretty well with them. They came out on fire, shooting the ball well, and we turned the ball over too many times in the first few possessions, dug ourselves a big hole, that we were never able to overcome. This one is one we would like to quickly move on from."
Georgia Meyer secured 15 rebounds for Marion while Isabelle Bontekoe, had four points and rebounds
Marion 32, Charleton Heston Academy 17
Masrion led 12-10 at halftime.
"After getting down 7-0 early, our bench players, led by Chloe Philo and Harley Bear, kept us in this game with an outstanding defensive effort," Lagrow said. "We only gave another 10 points after four minutes of play in this one. This was a total team effort, with very balanced scoring throughout our line-up. I am very proud of our team in this one, as we were able to get several players quality minutes."
Bontekoe had seven points and seven rebounds, Harley Bear had four points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Georgia Meyer had five points, and four rebounds.
Pine River 48, Houghton Lake 46
HOUGHTON -- Sasha Huffman scored at the buzzer to lead the Bucks to this two-point Highland win on Friday.
Hoffman had 14 points while Lane Ruppert had 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and Marcus Jurik nine points and 11 rebounds.
"We got off to a decent start and only scored six points in the second quarter," Pine River coach Brian Goodenow said. "We tied it with 16 seconds left, overcoming a 10-point deficit. Hoffman scored at the buzzer.
Pine River is 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the league.
Central Montcalm 64, Reed City 50
REED CITY -- Reed City fell to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the league with this loss on Jan 21.
The Coyotes play home against Cadillac on Wednesday. Friday's game with Newaygo was rescheduled to next Tuesday.
