MARION -- Marion led at halftime in recent action 15-13 before losing this overtime battle. It was 36-36 after regulation.
"This was a game we lost, but that we can learn a lot from 3-for-12 at the free-throw line in the fourth period," Marion coach Matt LaGrow said.
"Shooting like that in a close game, is not going to do it. Also, when we value the basketball, and not turn it over, I think we can play with anyone in the conference. We fought hard in this game, and our play in the fourth quarter, outside of free throws, might have been one of our best runs of the year."
Stella Henderson had 11 points and nine rebounds. Isabell Bontekoe had eight points and seven rebounds, Lexi Salisbury had six points, six assists, and four rebounds, Aspen LaGrow had seven points, Georgia Meyer had nine rebounds, and Oghosasse
Osadiaye had five steals.
Marion also won in recent games over Brethren (36-28), Mason County Eastern (30-25) and Mesick (32-29).
The Marion JVs won 38-24, Harley Bear had 12 point, Emily Krchmar had eight points, and Lisa Buchanan seven points.
Pine River 59, Lakeview 17
LEROY -- Pine River improved to 1-7 with this win on Monday. It was 25-10 at halftime and 47-10 after the third quarter.
Madi Sparks had 14 points and eight rebounds, plus three steals. Payton Fulmerhouser had nine points and seven steals.
"It felt really good to get a win," Pine River coach Paula Justin said.
Pine River is at Beal City on Wednesday.
Reed City 1-1
REMUS -- Chippewa Hills took another major step to defending its Central State Activities Association title with wins over Reed City (72-6) and Central Montcalm (61-18) on Wednesday.
While Reed City lost to the Warriors, they defeated Newaygo 62-10.
Kellen Haney won both of his matches for Reed City.
Winning against Newaygo were Bryson Hughes, Chad Landis, Haney, Noah Morgan, Kathy Innis, Austin Fowler, Ryan Neal, Anakin Andrus, Kash Davis, Mason Johnson and Alex Andrus.
"We started a little flat but Chippewa Hills has a good team," Reed City coach Roger Steig said. "We came back against Newaygo."
Pine River wins
EVART -- Pine River won 48-18 over Evart in action on Jan. 8, and 54-12 over Frankfort.
At 103, Jordan Nelson was 2-0. Also going 2-0 were Matt Treiber (119), Seth Duncan (125), Jordan Koertje (130), Caden Mys (135), Phil Rigling (145), Austin Woosten (171) and Elijah Carper (189).
Pine River is at Chippewa Hills on Wednesday.
The Bucks host a memorial tournament on Saturday.
