BENZONIA — Reed City’s cross country teams were both fourth at the Division 4 regionals at Benzie Central on Saturday. For the boys, Brandon Wirth was fourth (16:23.82), Calvin Rohde eighth (16:40.42), Noah Blythe 22nd (17:18.55), Jared Karns 51st (18:45.11) and Ryan Simmons 60th (19:11.64).

For the girls, Abbigail Kiaunis was ninth (19:14), Taylor Harrison 21st (20:33.99), Paige Lofquist 23rd (20:44.03), Leigha Johnson 38th (21;39.03) and Brooke Miller 41st (21:47.33).

The top three teams and top 15 runners qualify for the state meet on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway;

“We have three individuals headed to state, Brandon, Calvin, and Abbi,” Reed City coach Richard Saladin said. “This is the second straight year for all three to qualify. They have worked so hard and are very deserving. Brandon tweaked his ankle on Wednesday and ran with quite a bit of discomfort but still finished fourth overall. Calvin set a new PR and Abbi broke her own school record with a time. Every Coyote runner set a season record, a great effort by the whole team.

“Both boys and girls teams finished fourth out of 14 teams. It’s disappointing that we couldn’t break into the top three and send a team to state but we are very happy with the performances today. Two years ago we didn’t have enough runners on either team to score as a team and now we are fourth in arguably the toughest region in D3. I’m so proud of these kids.”

Evart boys were seventh and Pine River 11th.

For Evart, Austin Hamilton was fifth (16:24.23), Nathan Woods 10th (16:43.18), Tanner Ryan was 40th (18:08.13), Kinkade Dubreuil 49th (18;38.65) and Richard Foster was 56th (19:06.81).
