Rohde announces college intentions
REED CITY - Calvin Rohde is preparing for the upcoming Reed City track and field season.
After this, he'll be going to Seward, Neb., to begin a new cross country and track career with Concordia University.
Rohde signed his letter of intent on Thursday to attend and play sports at Concordia.
Rohde is his senior cross country season as a top 20 finisher in all regular-season events including eight top five finishes and four overall wins. He was an All-State Division 3 runner with a 25th place at the state finals.
"Calvin is one of our best student-athletes," Reed City athletic director Kris Griffin said.
"Calvin's work ethic and discipline drove him to first team all-conference, 4th at regionals, and All-State honors," Reed City cross country coach Rich Saladin said at the end of the season. "He's been with our program for four years and his leadership and example will be missed greatly. He's had a great career."
Concordia, Rohde said, "has a great music program. It's a great track program. I contacted them (during the fall). Both my parents went to Concordia, Chicago. I went on a visit there in early December."
Rohde also seriously considered Concordia, Chicago, and Drury University in Springfield, Mo.
Rohde from now on will continue to run and get into shape for high school, then college.
"In the last 10 years (Concordia) has won a national championship and has been a runner-up," Rohde said.
He's planning to study music education at Concordia.
"It's nice to have a decision made," Rohde said.
