Ridderman, Hensel pace Reed City girls

REED CITY – Improvement is something every girls soccer coach likes to see in his team. That’s been the case for Reed City coach Bryan Hall.

On April 17, the Coyotes won at Benzie Central 5-1 with Lindsay Ridderman and Kalee Hensel scoring two goals apiece. Kendra Repo scored the other goal for Reed City.

Heather Tacey was the winning goalkeeper.

“A lot of the stuff we were trying to do came together,” said Hall. “We passed well and had some nice crosses. The girls were able to finish.”

It was the Coyotes’ first victory of the season.

On Thursday, Reed City lost 8-0 to Shelby at home.

“Shelby was district champs last year and didn’t lose anybody off that team and they mercied us,” Hall said. “We were down 7-0 at halftime and they scored the eighth one eight minutes into the second half.

“Every aspect of their game was strong. We didn’t play poorly. They ran right through us and kicked it in. We didn’t slow them down much. It was very good passing and ball skills.”

Big Rapids comes to Reed City on Thursday while the Coyotes also play home with Mason County Central on Friday.

This past Monday was the first time the JV teams haven’t been up on the varsity squad.

“We’ve been using five or six every game,” Hall said. “We’ll have only about 13 players on varsity. That will be tough. I don’t know a lot about Big Rapids. That will be interesting. Mason County Central is usually solid. It will be interesting to see what they have this year.”
