EVART — Reese Ransom is among the athletes showing major promise for Evart’s wrestling team this season.

Ransom is wresting at 135 pounds. He was 4-1 on Dec. 9 in the Big Rapids Cardinal Invitational. His team will be at the Chippewa Hills Invitational on Saturday.

Ransom is enjoying impressive success on the mat as a freshman. He is coming off a successful career in junior high.

“I feel I wrestled pretty good today,” he said.

Ransom has started out 6-1.

“I feel like I’m recognizing when people shoot better this year,” he said. “I like bottom work. I have to work on shooting a little bit.”

It’s still a young season and Ransom figures he still needs more work.

“I’d like to make it to state,” he said. “I just have to keep doing what I’m doing.”

This is the fourth year of Evart’s varsity program. Most of the weight classes are being filled.

“We’re looking pretty good,” Ranson said.

He also plays football and baseball.

“Wrestling is probably my least favorite,” Ransom said. “I still love it.”
