Reed city track boys defeat White Cloud, take first at Alma Invitational

REED CITY — It may seem like the track season just started, thanks to the early spring weather that canceled many meets.

But the Central State Activities Association had its final dual meet of the season Wednesday with both Big Rapids and Reed City taking on White Cloud.

The league meet was Tuesday at Morley Stanwood.

In the boys meet, Reed City won 79-57 over White Cloud, But White Cloud defeated Big Rapids 86-47.

For the girls, it was White Cloud over Reed City 93-39 and over Big Rapids 86-49.

Reed City notched first places from Jacob Vincent in the discus at 133-8 and high jump at 5-4, Michael Bradford in the long jump at 19-5, and in the 400-meter dash in 53.94, Jon Green in the 110 hurdles in 11.5, the 800-meter relay team in 1:36.43, the 1,600-meter relay team and the 400-meter relay team of Jon Green, Michael Gilmurray, Eric Voelker and Andre’ Jones in 45.88 seconds.

“I think we did well,” said Reed City coach Brent Michell. “We won some races I didn’t anticipate and we won the races I expected to win. The kids ran well, they really competed well.

“Jake Vincent had a PR in the discus. Jon Green had a PR in the 100 dash and all our relays won. They ran really well.”

Sami Michell, in the final home meet of her storied career at Reed City, was first in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.6, the 100 meter dash , the 300-meter hurdles in 44.13 and the 200-meter dash at 27.38 seconds.

Michell actually competed against the boys in the 300 hurdles but her time counted in the girls standings.

“The girls performed pretty well, I was happy,” said Reed City coach Vikki Michell. “We had a lot of PRs tonight. Hanna Price PRed in both of her hurdles. McKenzie Cornelius improved in her distance races and her two-mile. She took almost a full minute off. Our sprint relays improved their time. Sami improved her 300 hurdle time. The girls all performed very well today.”


ALMA -- The Reed City boys track team won Division 3 of the Alma Invitational on Saturday.

The Coyotes were second overall among the 28 boys teams.

Jon Green won the 100 meter dash while Nathan Fasbender was first in the pole vault at 10-6. Eric Voelker was second in the 200. The 800-meter relay of Eric and Michael Bradford, Voelker and Andre Jones in 1:34.91. Those same four runners were second in the 1,600 relay. Chad Zagacki was second in the 3,200-meter run. Zagacki was third in the 1,600-meter run. Green was second in the discus in 124-5. RC won the 400 relay with 45.6 with Voelker, Collin Hatfield, Andre Jones and Green.

In the long jump, Michael Bradford was first in 20-3 1/4 and Eric Bradford second in 19-2 1/2.

Green “had a big day for us,” said Reed City coach Brent Michell. “We were really excited when we found out we won. It was close between us and Ithaca.”

Sami Michell won three events including the long jump in 17-7 3/4.

“That was a huge improvement,” said Reed City coach Vikki Michell.

She was first in the 100 hurdles in 14.46 seconds and 300 hurdles in 44.27 seconds. Hanna Price was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 18.11 and 300 hurdles in 2.85.
