Reed city’s golf season comes to an end
REED CiTY — Reed City’s golf team ended its season Thursday with regional qualifiers Spencer Battle and Ben Schermerhorn both failing to score low enough to qualify for the state finals.
Schermerhorn shot a 93.
Battle shot 98. The low 80s was the cut off for golfers hoping to qualify for the state finals.
“As the game of golf goes, it only takes one or two bad holes and it’s hard to recover from that,” said Reed City coach Katrina Wray. “About the halfway point, they both realized they weren’t going to make it. It was difficult for Ben, being a senior.”
The regionals were at Lakeside Links in Ludington.
Battle returns next season.
“Hopefully, we can go to regional as a team,” he said.
“He’s in line to be No 1 golfer next year,” Wray said of Battle, “but there are some kids by him that could take that spot. Right now, he’s in line to be No. 1.
There were too many putts and a couple of shots in the woods. What I liked is that they maintained a positive attitude.”
Colt Slater, Trevor Nelson and Justin Daneels were among the other seniors but the others will be returning. Meanwhile, Wray encourages the returning golfers to play as much as they can and try to compete an other courses
“That’s for variety and reading different greens,” Wray said.
