Reed City wrestlers third at South Haven

REED CITY — Reed City’s wrestling team placed third with a 3-2 record at the South Haven Invitational on Saturday.

The Coyotes lost 41-40 to Watervliet, defeated Niles 54-30, beat Bloomingdale 48-30, lost to Bangor 56-24 and defeated South Haven 46-36.

Reed City wrestlers that went 4-1 were Kyle Lawrence (103 pounds), Jimmy Bywater (119), Alex Brummel (135), Derrick Rasor (160), Isaiah Yonkin (189) and Dylan Chrispell (215). Posting two wins were Trent Walker (285), Jayson Johnson (130), Ryan Simmons (112) and Taylor Cutler (145).

The Coyotes are 6-8. Reed City wrestles at Grant on Jan. 6 in Central State Activities Association Gold Division action.

The Coyotes were at Pine River for a quad on Wednesday. They blanked Tawas 72-0 and loss to Pine River 46-22.

“Pine River is ranked in the state,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “We’re a young squad, but we’ve improved.”

Picking up two wins for Reed City were Brummel (140), Cutler (145), Brett Walker (171) and Dylan Chrispell (189).

“Dylan Chrispell, Trent Willard and Jimmy Bywater are showing some good leadership,” Steig said.
