Reed City wrestlers set to face Big Rapids in districts

REED CITY  — Reed City’s wrestling team enter Division 3 district action on Wednesday at Chippewa Hills with a semifinal match against Big Rapids.

Action starts at 5:30 p.m.

The winner will face Chippewa Hills for the district title.

Reed City will try to avenge a regular-season loss to the Cardinals.

“That should be an exciting match,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said.

Last Saturday, Reed City wrestled at Hesperia in the Central State Activities Association tournament. It was an individual tournament only. Reed City already finished the Gold Division season in fifth place.

For the Coyotes, Ryan Simmons (103 pounds) and Dylan Chrispell (189) were third, Jimmy Bywater (119) and Derrick Rasor (160) were fourth, and Brett Walker (171) and Trent Willard (285) were sixth.

“Ryan Simmons, a freshman, I thought he picked up his game,” Steig said, noting to finish all-conference, a wrestler needed to place top two.
