Reed City wrestlers earn all-league honors
REED CITY — Five Reed City wrestlers have been named to the Central State Activities Gold Division’s all-conference team for this season.
Devin Ward earned first-team honors, while Matthew McGahey, Thayne Stieg, Dylan Chrispell and Evan Skiver earned honorable mention accolades.
Ward was 38-8 at 171 pounds. “He was one of the senior leaders He had a good season going to the regionals,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “He had an outstanding season for us.”
McGahey was 39-9 at 125 pounds. “He was team captain,” Steig said. “He led the team in wins. He was a first-team academic all-stater.”
Stieg was 27-14 at 140 pounds.
“Thayne Stieg when he started the season, I thought he was one of our promising wrestlers,” Roger Steig said. “Halfway through the year, he got a knee injury that he struggled with. That held him back. He did a great job.”
Skiver was 31-14 at 215.
“Evan was a three-year wrestler,” Skiver said. “He absolutely has to be our most improved wrestlers. He wrestled at the state finals and was one match away from being an all-stater. He had an outstanding career for us.”
Dylan Chrispell is a junior, the others are seniors
“Dylan came a long way,” Steig said. “He wrestled with a lot more confidence than he has in the past. He liked the upper body stuff and did well with it. Now the season is done, he’ll continue to work. He had an outstanding year for us.”
