REED CITY — Six wrestlers from Reed City have earned honors from the Central State Activities Association.

The honors were based on their performances at the CSAA tournament.

Adam Kehr at 145 was on the first team. Adam Burks was a second-team finisher at 189. Honorable mention status went to Matt McGahey at 119, Devin Ward at 160 and Jon Green at 171.

Kehr, a senior, finished third in the state and was team captain and was 50-5. He was also a district champ.

Burks, a regional qualifier and junior, wrestled up a weight class. “He’s going to do what ever is best for the team,” Steig said. “He gave up 20 pounds for his match.” McGahey, a junior, was 34-18 and a regional qualifier.

“As a freshman, Matt was a state qualifier,” said Steig. “Matt’s a third-year varsity wrestler. He’s been one of our top wrestlers the last three years. He does a lot of stuff in the offseason and keeps himself in good condition.”

Ward was 33-18. “He was probably one of our most improved wrestlers from last   year,’” Steig said. “He played a major role in our team’s success this year.”

Green was 13-8 this season.

“At the postseason, he had to have surgery, so he had to miss the end-of-the year stuff and I was disappointed at that,” Steig said.

Skiver was 35-16 this season and was a regional qualifier.

“He never saw a wrestling mat up until two years ago,” Steig said. “He had to be our most improved wrestler. He came through for us most of the time. If the match was on the line, you wanted him on the mat for you. He’s that kind of wrestler.”
