Reed City wrestler eyes all-state season

REED CITY — Reed City’s wrestling team enters the holiday break and veteran grappler Alex Brummel is looking to continue his strong season.

It’s his senior season. He was at 135 pounds last season and is at that weight this year.

His goal for 2016-17 is to make it back to The Palace of Auburn Hills for the individual wrestling finals.

This time, he wants to place as an all-stater.

“I have to keep my head focused at all times and do the best I can,”  Brummel said. “I was happy (with last season) but wish I would have went further at the state tourney). I need to work a little harder.”

Brummel was in other sports at one time, but now focuses on wrestling. He works on the sport year-round. He’s been working on his stamina and on his various moves.

Brummel is hopeful the Coyotes can be competitive at the various weight classes. Individually, he expects Austin Spedowski of Chippewa Hills to provide solid competition.

“Whatever comes my way, I’m going to take it as a challenge,” he said. “I want to work on the mental aspect of my wrestling.”

Reed City is at Lakeview on Jan. 4.
