REED CITY — Adam Kehr made his second trip to the Division 3 state individual wrestling finals Thursday through Saturday with hopes of bringing home a medal.

The Reed City junior got off to a good start on Thursday at the Palace of Auburn Hills with a Thursday night win over Ean Taylor of Birch Run with a 16-2 major decision.

But then Kehr lost his next two matches and his season ended at 45-5. He fell 6-2 to John Weldon of Comstock Park and 6-2 to Jeff Mucha of Buchanan

“I wasn’t real happy about it,” Kehr said. “I didn’t wrestle terrible. I just didn’t have anything going my way that I needed to. I was really disappointed.”

Kehr was in good spirits after his first match as he focused on future opponents. Both of his losses were in close matches and boiled down to who got the key takedown.

Kehr is looking forward to next season and a shot at getting that elusive state medal. He was the only Coyote to qualify for the state finals.

“I thought Adam wrestled well,” said Reed City coach Roger Steig. “It’s a lot of the luck of the draw. He had a tough trail to follow. He’s  a junior and he’ll be back next year. Three of his five losses this year were by one point.

“I’m happy to have him come back next year and make a run for the championship.”
