MCBAIN — Reed City

was 0-2 while it was a perfect night for Big Rapids’ volleyball team in non-league action at McBain on Aug. 29.

The Cardinals swept both McBain 25-23, 25-20 and Reed City 25-17, 25-16

For the Cardinals, Jayla Strickland had 15 kills and five blocks; Grace Fath had 27 assists, 13 digs and four aces and Mackaela Klever had eight kills.

“It was an exciting night,” Big Rapids coach Chelsea Nelson said. “We’ve been working on our decision making and mental toughness at practice and tonight it showed. I was pleased with our hustle and our determination to not let balls hit the floor.”

Reed City (1-6) lost to McBain 25-15, 25-17.

For the Coyotes, Sidni Rushford had three kills, 11 digs and three aces; Kiera Barker had five digs and one kill; Jenna Johnson had five digs, two aces and one kill; Hannah Boza added six digs and two aces; Allison Duddles had 19 kills and four digs; Kamryn Myers contributed two kills and six digs; Jordyn Storch had six kills, 11 digs, one ace and 22 assists; and Alyssa Olds had 22 digs.

“We played rusty,” Reed City coach Don Patterson said. “It’s only our second time out. We had a few too many hitting errors on offense and defense. A couple of kids played well. But we looked rusty.”

Reed City was home Tuesday against Newaygo. The Coyotes will be at McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Thursday and at the Big Rapids Invitational on Saturday. They play at Fremont next Tuesday.
