Reed City volleyball team 1-3 at Central Montcalm Invitational

 REED CITY — Reed City and Pine River’s volleyball teams were both in action on Saturday, and will now gear up for district playoff appearances on Wednesday.

The Coyotes were at the Central Montcalm Invitational.

Reed City swept Mesick 25-16, 25-19; lost to Central Montcalm 25-23, 25-14; fell to Cadillac 25-12, 25-6 and bowed to Tri County 25-18, 25-19.

Leading the Coyotes were Megan Donley with six aces, 13 kills, 37 digs and three blocks; Meghan Borst with 10 kills; Hanna Price with five kills and 43 digs; Liza Emington with three aces, three kills, 18 digs and 17 assists; Jordan Storch with four aces, 10 digs and 22 assists; Sidni Rushford with four kills and a block; Ally Yarger with six aces, five kills and 44 digs; Alyssa Olds with three aces and 23 digs.

“I thought we played pretty decent all day,” Reed City coach Don Patterson said.  “We had a couple of stretches in a couple of games where we struggled with consistency a little. Still, some good things happened for us.”

The Coyotes are home for districts this week and play Chippewa Hills Wednesday night in a semifinal match.

Pine River played in the Highland Conference tourney and finished fourth. The Bucks defeated McBain Northern Michigan Christian 25-12, 25-8, fell to Lake City 25-11, 25-12; beat Manton 26-24, 22-25, 15-10 and lost to Beal City 25-23, 25-23.

Kyla Johnson had 27 kills and 25 digs for the Bucks, followed by KayLee Goodman with 22 kills and 26 digs, Julie Justin with 20 kills and 29 digs and Logan Powell with 85 assists and 29 digs

Chelsey TerBurgh added 36 digs and Tailor Charles had 16.

“We played a great game against NMC to get us rolling but hit some speed bumps in the Lake City game,” Pine River coach Jana Dennis. “We rebounded and played good against Manton, and even though we lost our games against Beal, we played real well. Now our focus is on getting ready for districts.”

Pine River plays at Evart Wednesday night in semifinal district action.
