Reed City track teams fall to Big Rapids in poor conditions

REED CITY — It was not an ideal day for track. But the Reed City Coyotes were able to get a CSAA meet in the books.

Despite windy wet weather Tuesday night, April 26, the Cardinal boys and girls track teams prevailed with double dual victories over Reed City and White Cloud in Central State Activities Association play.

In the boys meet, Big Rapids outpointed Reed City 90-43 and White Cloud 99.5-37.5. Reed City’s boys beat White Cloud 82-54.

White Cloud defeated the Reed City girls 73-45. Big Rapids had two wins with a 52-44 edging of Reed City and a 68-57 topping of White Cloud.

It was the CSAA opener for all three teams.

Reed City netted firsts from Jacob Vincent in the discus and 400-meter dash, Brian Michell in the pole vault and Joe Oehril in the 1,600-meter run and the 800-meter run.

Corey Saladin was second in the 110 hurdles at 19:387 seconds and Eric Reed was runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 12.51 seconds. Other seconds came from Michell in the 300 hurdles in 42.922 and Oehrli in the 3,200-meter run in 11:132.

“It looks like we ran pretty hard on a (poor) day but it turned out being nice at the end,” Reed City coach Brent Michell said. “It’s hard to judge performances. One of my vaulters was upset but I said you can’t base your performance on today. It was windy and rainy. We have a ways to go yet. We’re not where we want to be yet. Thank goodness, it’s only April.”

First-place finishers for Reed City were Miranda Guerin in the discus and Sami Michell in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes and Kristin Forman in the 3,200-meter run.

Katie Nicklas was second in the pole vault at 6-6. Schaniece Kitelinger took a second in the discus at 50-1.5 Forman was second in the 1,600 meters at 6:12.28 and second in the 800 meters at 2:43.

Reed City hosted a junior varsity invitational on Saturday for ninth and 10th-graders.

For the Coyote boys, Jacob Vincent was third in the shot put at 34-7 and fourth in the discus at 101-0. Eric Voelker was fourth in the pole vault at 9-6.

Michael Bradford won the long jump at 19-2 and Eric Bradford was second at 18-7.50. Corey Saladin was third in the 110-hurdles at 18.79 and Eric Voelker third in the 100-meter dash at 12.988.

The 400-meter relay team of the Bradfords, Paris Jones and Eric Voelker was first in 48.342.

Michael Bradford won the 400-meter dash in 57.412 seconds and Saladin won the 300 hurdles in 46.988. Adam Kehr was third in the 800 in 2:25.062. Eric Voelker was third in the 200-meter dash in 25.751. RC won the 1,600 relay in 3:53.16 with the foursome of the Bradfords, Jonathan Gauthier and Kyle Voelker.

For the Reed City girls, Katie Nicklas was third in the pole vault at 6-6. Sami Michell won the 100-yard dash in 13.453 seconds, the 400 meters in 1:01.785 and the 200 meters in 26.799. Reed City was second in the 1,600-meter relay in 5:22.75.
