REED CITY – Kamryn Myers showed her skills as 3-point shooter during the recently completed girls basketball season.

But on Saturday, she’ll have a chance to prove she’s one of the best in the state.

Myers will be competing in a 3-point shooting contest at halftime of a girls state title game at Calvin College in Grand Rapids.

Records were kept during the season of how many 3-pointers Myers attempted and how many she made.

A percentage was compiled. She was higher than the minimum listed percentage and qualified for Saturday’s competition.

Her percentage is around 49 percent.

Myers, a junior, found out last week she had qualified and this will be her first appearance in the contest. She will be competing on March 17 at 10:30 a.m. prior to the first state title game.

“There’s a rack of balls at five different locations on top of the key,” Myers said. “You shoot under 60 seconds.”

She’s among 20 girls in all classes who will be shooting. Myers is confident she can do well.

“I’m pretty nervous,” she said. “Focusing and practicing will be critical.”
