Reed City ties Hart in girls soccer

REED CITY — Lauren Voelker and Katelin Reed scored for Reed City in a 2-2 nonleague tie with Hart on Thursday.

Voelker’s goal came in the first half and Reed converted early in the second for a 2-0 lead. Aubrey Hetzler scored two goals for the Pirates, including one on a penalty kick.

Reed remembers her goal very well.

“I remember hustling down, it was kicked in the center, the keeper got it, but (the ball) got loose and I kicked it in,” Reed said.

The play got rough at times. Hart fell to 1-3-1. Emotions were high.

“I see a few things where we have to work on,” said Hart coach Stacy Baylis, citing that her players were struggling to keep their emotions in check. “It was a high stressful game. We came off an emotional game on Tuesday. Our goalkeeper took a serious injury, so our girls were playing on a high level. They were a still playing on that high.”

“It was a physical game and sometimes we lost sight of the game and got involved in some of that other stuff,” Reed City coach Bryan Hall said.

Megan Rasmussen and Taya Martin were Hart’s goalkeepers.

Brenna Westhoff was Reed City’s goalkeeper.

Reed City (0-3-2) lost 8-4 to Grant on Wednesday.

“We played well,” Hall said after the Hart game. “(Wednesday’s game) showed them they could score goals. We made good passes and good possessions. We couldn’t contain their speed. But I thought we held on. You don’t often score four goals and lose by four goals. But it was still a good match and set us up (against Hart).”

Reed and Voelker scored two goals apiece.

Reed City is at Kent City on Wednesday.
