Reed City thrower piling up points

REED CITY — Miranda Guerin is a senior thrower for Reed City in her second year of track and will be counted upon to deliver key points for the Coyotes in the field events.

Last year, Guerin’s last personal best was 72 feet in the discus. She’s working on the shot put, discus and running events.

Throws will be her main event.

“I’m hoping to get the school record, 115 feet,” she said. “This year, I’m up to 83. I’m hoping for (115). It will take a lot of discipline and hard work.”

Guerin made her season debut in early March at the Grand Valley State Indoor Invitational.

“I threw 24, that was my best,” she said. “I’m hoping to get at least up to 28.”

Guerin said other girls are also in the throws for Reed City. She expects to see plenty of stiff competition during the season, including in the Central State Activities Association.

“It’s pretty difficult, there’s a lot of girls that can throw pretty far,” she said.

But in a dual last Thursday at Evart, Guerin took first in the discus with a throw of 82-1.
