Reed City softball team sweeps Tri County

REED CITY — Reed City’s LAT League summer league season opened at home with 12-2 and 17-2 victories over Tri County last Wednesday.

The first game went five innings.  Sidni Rushford was the winning pitcher. She allowed two runs on five hits and one walk, while striking out eight.

Taylor Cutler and Jordyn Storch had two hits. Bailey Brummel, Maddi Morgan, Alyssa Olds, Rushford and Devin Willard had one hit.

The second game went four innings. Morgan was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks, while striking out four.

Olds and Willard had three hits, while Cutler, Abby Helsel and Storch had two and Drew Arnold, Brummel, Abby Morgan and Rushford had one. 

“It was nice to see some of our girls where you can tell they are excited about getting ready for next year,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “They certainly stepped up their game. I thought Sidni Rushford looked very good (in the circle) and Taylor Cutler did a nice job behind the plate. Devin Willard and Alyssa Olds really came to life at the plate and hit the ball well for us. It’s nice to see them get untracked.”

Reed City plays at Cadillac next Wednesday.

“I thought the older girls did a nice job leading the younger ladies,” Steig said. “We have a good mix going on right now. Summer is going to be exciting.

Pine River 11, 8 Marion 10, 5

Pine River opened its LAT League summer schedule with 11-10 and 8-5 wins over Marion on Wednesday at the Bristol Fields.

Kourtney Brock was the winner of the first game, while Riley Richards took the loss. Kaylee Goodman had a triple and an RBI, Carleton Trowbridge had two singles and an RBI and Kourtney Brock had two singles and four RBIs. Richards had a double and two RBI for Marion, whose team also included Pine River JV players. Teagan Cox had a single.

In the second game, Alexis Bennett had a single and double for Pine River. Mackenzie Denton got the win for Pine River. Richards had two hits for Marion.

Pine River plays next Wednesday at Bristol against the Reed City-Pine River alumni team.
