REED CITY — It’s a big week for the Reed City girls softball team, which has its final home Wednesday against Central Montcalm in Central State Activities Association action.

Saturday, Reed City plays Manton in a Division 3 district semifinal game at Pine River. The survivor of that game goes into the finals to play at a team from the other bracket consisting of Lake City, McBain and Pine River.

Reed City lost two close games to Manton earlier in the season.

“Lately we’ve played good ball, it seems like we have an inning that gets away from us,” said Reed City coach Roger Steig. “The girls are playing smart ball right now. We’re a young team. I’m confident we’ll do fine in the districts.”

Brittani Yarger is hoping the team can play like it did earlier this month in the first game of doubleheader against Big Rapids, which turned into a Coyote victory. She had several putouts at third base in that game.

“We’ve been playing good together,” Yarger said. “We been working much better together and working harder at practice.”

Yarger likes the way she’s been hitting the ball.

“We’ve been doing much better,” she said of the team. “At the beginning of the season we weren’t hitting well. Now we’ve been hitting exceptionally well.”
