Reed City softball team resumes LAT League action
HOWARD CITY — Reed City’s summer baseball team resumed action on Thursday with a doubleheader split at Tri County.
Both game were non-league battles. Reed City returns to Tri County on Wednesday for LAT League summer games.
Reed City won the first game 10-3, and lost the second 3-2.
Maddie Morgan was the winning pitcher in the first game. She gave up three runs, none earned, on two hits. She struck out 11 and walked one.
Leading hitters were Mady Brown with two hits and Morgan, Devin Willard, Cassie Enos and Abby Helsel with one apiece.
Morgan took the loss in the second game. She went five innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits, striking out 10 and walking six.
Brown came in relief, striking out two and walking two. She allowed no hits.
Morgan had Reed City’s only hit.
“We got a walk, stole a base and then a base hit to score a run,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “In the fourth, they walked us, we stole a base and there was an error and we scored on a wild pitch.”
Both games went six innings.
“Maddie Morgan pitched outstanding,” Steig said. “The weather was hot. We tried to ride her two games. After she pitched one complete game we pulled her in the fifth inning of the second game. Mady Brown did a nice job. I was happy with our pitchers tonight. They did a great job.
“Maddie struck out 11 batters the first game and then 10 the second. In the fifth inning of the second game, she ran into some control problems. Other than that, she went 10 straight innings of solid ball. She kept batters off pace.”
Reed City practices every Sunday night. The final LAT League game is with Pine River on July 26. Steig said on Sunday he has enough girls for two teams to be playing each Wednesday.
