Reed City softball team enjoys lopsided wins over Marion

BRISTOL — Reed City’s Local Area Teams League softball squad had two easy wins over Marion on Wednesday.

The Coyotes won 21-3 in four innings and 12-2 in five innings.

Sidni Rushford was the winning pitcher in the first game, giving up three runs on two hits and no walks while striking out eight. She also had two hits. Drew Arnold, Abby Hensel, Maddie Sutherland and Jocelyn Wirth had one hit.

Maddie Morgan was the winning pitcher in the second game, allowing two runs on one hit, striking out six and walking three.

Rushford and Wirth had two hits. Maddie and Rachel Morgan and Alyssa Olds had one hit.

“Maddie and Sidni had solid pitching games and we did an outstanding job on offense,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said.

Reed City faces the Reed City-Pine River alumni team at Bristol in a doubleheader next week.

“They’re 8-0 and we look forward to playing them,” Steig said. 

Pine River 9,9 Tri County 8, 9

HOWARD CITY — Pine River won the first game 9-8, over Tri County in LAT League action on Wednesday.

Pine River took advantage of seven Tri County errors. Alexis Bennett was the winning pitcher, going the first three innings and recording seven strikeouts. Kourtney Brock went the final three innings. McKenzie Denton had a double and an RBI. Carleigh Trowbridge had two RBIs while Bekah Dean added a triple and an RBI.

The second game ended in a 9-9 tie. Tri County only had one hit, but took advantage of 11 walks from three Pine River pitchers: Mackenzie Denton, Dean and Bennett.

Trowbridge, Dean and Goodman had two hits.

“Our bats are working well for us, and we are changing things up defensively quite a bit,” Pine River coach Laura Mumby said. “Summer ball is a great time to work the kinks out and we are doing that for sure.”

Pine River is at Bristol Fields on Wednesday against Marion.
