Reed City softball girls are 3-1

REED CITY — Reed City softball coach Roger Steig brought two teams with him to Bristol Fields on Wednesday for Local Area Teams League action and had three seasons to smile.

The Reed City teams won three of their four

games.

Reed City No. 1 played Pine River and won the opener 13-2 with the mercy rule taking effect.

Maddie Morgan was the pitcher of record, allowing two runs on three hits striking out 11 and walking two in five innings.

Cassie Enos had three hits for Reed City. Morgan, Drew Arnold and Abby Morgan had two hits apiece. Abby Helsel, Alaina Stein, Jennel Castello had two hits apiece. Hannah Diehl had one hit.

Reed City No. 1 lost the second game 8-7. Stein went one inning, allowing five runs on four walks and one hit. Morgan pitched the final five innings. She gave up three runs on two hits, striking out five and walking three.

Maddie Morgan had three hits. Arnold and Abby Morgan added two hits apiece. Contributing one hit each were Enos, Brandy Bentley, Castello and Diehl.

Reed City No. 2 swept Cadillac, taking the first game 9-5. Winning pitcher was Hannah Kaverman. She allowed five runs on four hits, striking out three and walking five.

Top hitters were Hanna Smith with three hits and Abby Gray, Riley Shafer, Kaverman, Lillie Gallinger and Josie Schebil with one hit apiece.

In the second game, Reed City prevailed 9-7. Gray was the winning pitcher, allowing seven runs on nine hits, striking out seven and walking four. Gray, Smith and MaKayla Mondrella had two hits apiece. Kaverman and Schebil had one hit each.

Reed City plays at Cadillac on Wednesday and is at home on Thursday against Tri County.

“It’ s rather exciting to me,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “In the summer time, a lot of schools have trouble putting one team together. We’re able to put two out there.”
