Reed City softball, baseball teams fall

REED CITY — Reed City’s softball team lost 14-5 to Newaygo in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday.

Jules Griffin took the loss in the first game, striking out eight and walking six. Griffin, Alli and Brittani Yarger, Heather Huss, Skiler Brigham and Hanna Price and Brittany Cassdiy had hits for Reed City.

The Coyotes lost the second game 12-7. Price took the pitching loss, striking out eight and giving up 12 runs and 14 hits.

Reed City 4, 0; Hesperia 6, 11

HESPERIA — Reed City’s softball team was swept by Hesperia in doubleheader action Tuesday, May 21

Jules Griffin took the loss in the 6-4 opener, giving up four runs and five hits while striking out one in two innings.

Hanna Price pitched the last five innings, striking out four and giving up one hit.

Ally Yarger had three hits while Brittani Yarger and Brittany Cassidy each had a hit.

Price was the losing pitcher in the 11-0 nightcap, giving up nine hits and striking out seven in five innings.

Griffin, Heather Huss, Lindsey Greer and Tristan Rogers each had a hit in the game.

Reed City (8-19, 4-10) next hosts Central Montcalm Thursday.


NEWAYGO — Reed City’s baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Newaygo Friday.

The Coyotes lost the first game 11-2, with Ray Phenix taking the loss after striking out two in six innings of work.

Sean Woodside led the Coyotes by recording a hit and scoring a run while Josh Saez had a hit and stole a base and Jordan Rolston tallied a hit.

Newaygo finished off the sweep with a 10-0 victory in the nightcap.

Woodside took the loss for Reed City, giving up eight earned runs and striking out four in five innings.

Woodside, Rolston and Eric Grannis each had a hit in the game.

Reed City (5-20, 1-13) played at McBain Tuesday. The Coyotes are home Wednesday at Central Montcalm to close out the CSAA season and is at Pine River in Division 3 district action on Saturday against Manton.

HESPERIA — Reed City’s baseball team was swept in doubleheader action at Hesperia Tuesday.

Ryan Willis took the loss in the 6-2 opener, giving up six hits and three earned runs while striking out four in six innings.

Sean Woodside had a hit, a run and swiped two bases while Willis went 3-for-4 with a run and Ray Phenix went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Coyotes fell 5-4 in the nightcap, with Ricky Droke taking the loss in two innings of work after allowing two earned runs and three hits.

Woodside pitched the rest of the way, giving up one earned run and striking out four.

Jordan Straub had a hit and scored a run while Droke scored a run and stole three bases.
