Reed City soccer team posts first victory

KENT CITY —  Reed City posted its first win of the season with a 2-1 Central State Activities Association victory over Kent City on Wednesday.

Allyeha Chaney scored both Reed City (1-3-1, 1-4-2) goals. Brenna Westhoff was the winning goalkeeper.

Kent City scored first. The Coyotes converted later in the first half for a 1-1 tie at the intermission. Chaney scored the game-winner midway in the second half.

“We were able to put passes together and our defense was solid,” Reed City coach Bryan Hall said. “They only had three shots. We were able to control the midfield and get the passes up. In the second half, we had the wind and were able to keep it locked into their end and get several shots on goal.”

On Monday, Reed City had another game at Lakeview and lost 4-0 in CSAA play.

It was 1-0 at halftime.

“Our defense played very well,” Reed City coach Bryan Hall said. “But we didn’t challenge much offensively, not much at all.”

Brenna Westhoff was the starting goalkeeper for the Coyotes. Lauren Voelker was keeper for the last 15 minutes.

Reed City (1-3-1, 1-4-2) plays at Tri County on Wednesday in CSAA action. Next Monday, Reed City has a CSAA match at Newaygo, followed by a league road match at Grant on May 16.
