Reed City soccer team falls to Tri County 9-1

HOWARD CITY ― Reed City’s boys soccer team fell to 0-2 overall after falling 9-1 to Tri County in Wednesday’s Central State Activities Association Gold Division match.

Tri County led 5-1 at halftime and outscored Reed City 4-0 in the second half. The Vikings ended the game on the mercy rule with their ninth goal with 13:13 minutes left in regulation.

Quinton Kichak scored Reed City’s only goal, assisted by Brandon Wirth. Alex Brummel was in the net for Reed City.

“They’ve definitely had our number in the past,” Reed City coach Cody Jacobs said of Tri County. “We definitely didn’t play our best match. I don’t think it’s indicative of how we’ll perform in the conference.”

Jacobs commended Brummel’s efforts.

“He played very well with the hand he was dealt,” Jacobs said. “He’s been lights out for us all season. For a first-year soccer player, he’s done extraordinary for us.”

Jacobs was looking forward to better fortunes against CSAA foe Newaygo earlier this week in the home opener.

Reed City is home Sept. 8 against Grant in CSAA action.
