REED CITY — Reed City's 6-1 loss to Newaygo in Monday's Division 3 district first-round game almost followed the same script from previous contests this season.

The Coyotes scored first, were tied at first half, but then the other team dominated in the second half. It happened that way on Monday.

"We tried really hard but we could have done better," Reed City soccer Ty Brocker said. "There were some mistakes made, but we'll improve."

Lorenz Hoernel scored the Coyote goal, assisted by Ethan Maddox.

"This team put up 15 goals against us the last two times we played them," Reed City coach Doug Emington said. "The kids really have improved on defense. It was a great group of kids and a good effort on the home field on the last game."

Reed City lost at Lakevew 4-0 to end the regular season on Thursday. The Coyotes graduate five seniors.

"The kids who were freshmen last year are still our biggest group," Emington said. "We only have three juniors.

Newaygo will play at Big Rapids in a semifinal contest on Wednesday.

"That will be a good game between those two teams," Emington said.
