Reed City soccer player has high hopes for 2016 season

REED CITY — Thomas Quinn and his Reed City teammates are getting ready for another Coyote soccer season.

Quinn and other soccer players were taking advantage of open field opportunities recently.

Quinn played at wing for the Coyotes as a freshman last season. He was at a wing spot. He’s been playing the sport 11 years, most recently as a wing.

“I used to play striker,” Quinn said.

Quinn made his varsity debut in 2015.

“It went well, it was really rough and physical,” he said, adding that it took a few games to make the right adjustments. “I got a lot more aggressive.”

Quinn also played golf in the spring. Right now, he’s focused on soccer.

With open fields, “I have to get back in shape,” he said. “It’s pretty hard after so long and not running.”

Dribbling around players has been a strength for Quinn, “and making shots on the net,” he said. Quinn is working on his stamina and speed.

Reed City soccer practices are on Aug. 10. The Coyotes, under new coach Doug Emington, are expected to be a young team.

The Coyotes have had five coaches in the past five seasons, but Quinn doesn’t see that as being a factor.

“When I was in AYSO, there were new coaches every year,” Quinn said. “Some change it completely while others kind of have the same methods.”
