REED CITY — Reed City’s soccer team, has won just three matches this season, but the Coyotes continue to have some impressive performances in the final days of the regular season.

Fremont edged Reed City 2-1 on Monday in Central State Activities Association action.

Ethan Maddox scored in the first half for Reed City to tie the game 1-1. The Packers scored later and never looked back.

But Reed City stayed within one kick away from tying the game.

“We had tied our last game against Tri County who had beaten us before,” Reed City coach Doug Emington said. “The last time we played (Fremont), it was 9-1 at their place. We showed improvement as a team. We didn’t have Ty (Brocker) last time and I thought he made a difference in the midfield. The boys did a good job of challenging the ball tonight.”

“We always do better the second round of conference,” Maddox said.

Jordan Lofquist a freshman goalkeeper “had an outstanding game and stood on his head for some saves,” Emington said. “Our center defenders CJ Cornelius and Hunter Diehl played solid in the middle. We knew we’d have to mark their high scorer.”

Brocker, a sophomore said he was red carded when he had to miss the first Fremont game.

“I usually connect passes to the striker,” he said. “I made a mistake when I got that red card.”

Brocker has scored two goals in recent games.

“We’ve gotten much better,” he said. “We’re understanding where each other’s spots go.”

The Coyotes close the regular season on Thursday at Lakeview. They open district action 5 p.m. at home Monday aganst Newaygo. The finals will be at Fremont later in the week.
