Reed City senior, teammates hoping for district title

REED CITY — Linebacker Taylor Pelton and his fellow Reed City seniors will be going for their second straight district title when they host Grand Rapids West Catholic on Friday.

Reed City beat Manistee 50-27 last week to open the playoffs.

The Coyotes also won their fifth straight Central State Activities Association title with a 26-7 win over Chippewa Hills during the regular season. Reed City is 10-0.

Earlier this season in a homecoming win over Central Montcalm, Pelton could see that the Coyotes were continuing to get the job done in an effective way.

“Our offensive line came focused and ready to go,” Pelton said after that game. “Our defense played a great game. They only had one first down the whole time. We really stepped up. The D line did an amazing job. They made it easier for us backers to get tackles.”

In their drive to 10-0, the Coyotes have been extremely stingy on defense.

“Our defense is a big part of our game,” Pelton said. “Typically, we don’t let up many points, not very much this year. Our D-line has played a big part.”

The linebackers have had a strong season too, he added.

Every game from now on is a huge one.

“We’ve been here and just have to stick to what we know and do what we do,” Pelton said.
