REED CITY – Paige Lofquist is getting ready for the Reed City soccer season in her final sport as a Coyote.

But Lofquist can also look back fondly on a strong basketball season in which the Coyotes showed enormous improvement.

A highlight was a five-game winning streak in the middle of the schedule and a 41-31 win at Big Rapids.

I thought we played really well,” Lofquist said after the game. “We were very composed and we worked well on our zone. It all came together.

Any win is nice but Lofquist acknowledged beating their archrivals was especially sweet. It was Lofquist’s third year on the varsity. It was her first win over Big Rapids.

The key behind the five-game win streak was “team bonding and all of us getting along together and all of us liking each other,” Lofquist said. “A key has been team chemistry and being very good on our defensive end.”

Lofquist focused on ball handling for the Coyotes and was able to handle the full-court pressure.

“Some games we’ve struggled with it, but most games when we get the hang of it we’re able to get going,” she said. “We need to be able to play confidently and make our shots.”

Lofquist ran cross country and plays soccer, but said basketball was her favorite sport.
