Reed City senior ready for new girls basketball season

REED CITY — Kendra Repo and her Reed City girls basketball teammates have a good feeling about the upcoming season.

The Coyotes are now in their third week of preseason practices. Repo, a senior, is in her second season and saw time off the bench last year as a wing guard. She will be mostly at that position again this season.

Repo remembers the adjustment she made from the junior varsity to varsity.

“It’s definitely a lot more physical,” she said. “I wasn’t used to that so I had to get a lot tougher...don’t let people push you around.”

It was a busy summer for Repo, especially with camps.

“I think I’m a smarter player,” she said. “I don’t get so nervous.”

Repo is looking at passing to be a strength, including against tough defenses and presses.

She’ll also be looking to get her shots off quickly.

“I’ll probably shoot threes a little more than closer shots,” Repo said. “I can probably shoot 50 percent...good form and always be ready to shoot.”

The season starts with road games Dec. 3 at Pine River, Dec. 6 at Cadillac and Dec. 9 at Big Rapids. The first home game is Dec. 12 with Morley Stanwood.

“We’re a lot more conditioned, we’re getting in shape,” Repo said. “We lost a few key players (from last season) but I think we can make up for it. I think we’re all really athletic.”

The Coyotes, Repo said. hope to be a contender in the Central State Activities Association. As a senior, she’s also hoping to be a leader.
