Reed City senior pitcher set to make key contributions

REED CITY — Reed City players like Leland Yonkin are looking to play a key role in the critical upcoming weeks of the season.

A major highlight for Yonkin and the Coyotes was finishing second to Traverse City West in the Morley Stanwood Invitational last month.

Yonkin’s in his second year with the Coyotes. He’s a pitcher and outfielder.

As a pitcher, “I can throw hard and have a pretty good curveball,” he said. “I need to develop more pitches. I didn’t pitch in the offseason so I’m working at it.”

The Coyotes have been working at their pitching depth, Yonkin noted.

As an outfielder, Yonkin has had a strong arm and is working on his fielding. He’s looking at hitting .300. He’s trying to exercise discipline at the plate.

The Coyotes are looking to be a factor in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division race.

“I feel we have everything we need,” he said. “We need to bring it together.”

Reed City is home with Chippewa Hills on Friday in CSAA Gold Division action.
