Reed City senior eyes improvement

REED CITY— Liza Emington acknowledged that the Reed City volleyball team started off the season slow, but the senior setter is optimistic the team’s fortunes can shine as the year progresses.

“We’re changing our lineup, so we’ll see how that goes,” she said earlier this month. “We need to execute our plays. We know what we’re supposed to do but we’re not really executing it correctly.”

The rate of improvement very early in the season wasn’t where Emington wanted to see it.

“We had setter’s practice, we’ve changed our sets a little bit,” she said. “We’re putting them less high than we used to. We’re changing our pace too.”

Reed City defeated Lakeview 3-1 on Monday and plays at Pine River Thursday.

“We just have to execute,” Emington said. “Hit the ball a little harder, pass better. Our defense has been pretty good. We’re hanging in as a team.”
