Reed City seals another 9-0 regular season

MCBAIN — The Reed City football team finished the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record for the fifth time in six years after Friday’s 47-6 nonleague victory over McBain.

Logan Straub led the offense with 10 carries for 149 yards and three touchdowns. Derrick Razor also threw for a pair of scores and 59 yards. Trent Sturgell caught both passes

“It was great to get another win,” Reed City coach Monty Price said. “We’re undefeated again. McBain is a very solid opponent. They presented a challenge to us. Our kids overcame some adversity early and played solid to get a big win.”

Brandon Evans, Sturgell and Brandon Major each had an interception to pace the defensive effort.

That makes it 52-2 in the last six regular seasons.

“Our kids just play hard and we put ourselves in a position to win a lot football games,” Price said. “We find a way to be successful. The kids work hard. A lot of people will make reference to the fact we only have one district championship. A lot of championship teams don’t have a 9--0 season. We’re excited to be where we’re at.”

Reed City is home against Pinconning (6-3) in a predistrict game on Friday.

“I’m a firm believer that once you get into the playoffs it takes a little bit of luck, you have to have some luck in the pairings,” Price said. “We’ve had some tough pairings over the course of the last five years. What our kids have done, you can’t take that away from them.”
