Reed City’s wrestling season comes to a close
REED CITY — The Coyotes had two wrestlers qualify for Saturday's individual Division 3 regionals at Charlevoix.
Brett Walker at 189 pounds went 0-2.
Ryan Simmons at 112 pounds lost his match to get into the semifinal round, which would have then qualified him for the state finals. He lost 2-0 to Bray Haynes, of Chippewa Hills.
"Both were making their first trip to the regionals," Reed City coach Roger Steig said. "They'll be back next year."
Simmons was third and Walker was fourth at districts to qualify for the regionals.
Most of the Coyotes returns next season.
At the end of the year, "we didn't have any seniors left on the team" Steig said.
But the veteran Coyote coach was pleased with the number of wrestlers on the team this season. After a brief break, the wrestlers will get back at it with offseason training in the Coyote weight room, including freestyle competition.
