REED CITY – Reed City’s running attack has usually featured plenty of depth in running back.

Such has been the case this season with new faces emerging such as junior John Ondrus who has had his share of yardage and touchdowns.

One of his best games was Reed City’s 52-0 win over previously undefeated Kent City.

“I thought we did an exceptional job,” he said. “Everyone was really focused and it showed on the scoreboard.”

It’s his first varsity season.

“It’s been really good, I’ve been feeling great,” Ondrus said. “This is by far one of the best seasons I’ve played. It’s been a matter of dedication and maintaining focus. I’ve been able to see a hole and make the cut, making a move on the other guy.”

His first high school touchdown against Muskegon Orchard View was a thrill.

Ondrus has also seen action at defensive back.

“I feel I’m very quick for the cover and getting the ball,” he said.

Reed City entered playoff action with an 8-1 record and tied for eighth-place ranking in the state for Division 6 and now are competing in the state semi-finals this Saturday.

“We have very good chemistry,” Ondrus said. “We work well together. We just have to show up at practice and keep going hard and always focus on the week at hand.”
