SHEPHERD - Reed City's girls cross country squad was fifth out of 13 teams in the Gold Division of the Shepherd Bluejay Invitational on Saturday.

For Reed City, Abbigail Kiaunis was second (19:43.4), Taylor Harrison 14th (20:54.7), Paige Lofquist 33rd (21:41.4), Olivia Lewis 40th (22:01.0) and Claudia Francke 42nd (22:04).

The Reed City boys were 20th.

"Between both the varsity and JV girls' races, we had 11 out of 13 girls achieve a season record with six of them earning a PR (personal record)," coach Rich Saladin said.

"We knew it was a fast course and I was very happy with how they all attacked the course. We continue to improve and it's really exciting when all seven of your runners earn a medal."

The boys ended up eighth out of 12 teams with Calvin Rohde finishing fifth overall, Jared Karns 18th, and Noah Blythe 48th to bring home medals from the invite.

"The boys as a group also had four season records and two PRs from our freshmen Ty Kailing and Mason Dozier," Saladin said. "Our senior boys set a good example today about working hard and getting through a tough race. It was the last race of the day and the conditions were getting a little sloppy

"Shepherd hosted a great race and they have a beautiful set-up for cross country. It was a pleasure to run there against some great competition. Abbi Kiaunis and Calvin Rohde are consistent top five runners and they've definitely earned the recognition of being top competitors in our area."'

Reed City has its next conference meet at Newaygo on Tuesday.
