Reed City pitcher prospers with summer baseball

REED CITY —  Logan Straub completed his summer baseball season with Reed City and is hoping it will pay off huge dividends next spring.

The Coyotes were runners-up in their summer league, losing 6-5 in the title game to Grant. They beat Evart 18-2 in the semifinals.

Straub will be a junior next season and had a productive summer of baseball.

“It went pretty good, I’m getting better at pitching,” he said. “It’s been pretty much mechanics.”

It was a disappointing 8-24 baseball season so Straub and the Coyotes spent the summer working to improve with several baseball games.

“This helps us out a lot,” Straub said. “It gives us something to do and keeps your mind on baseball.”

His batting has been “all right, I guess,” Straub said. “It’s basics more than anything.”

It’s been a challenging summer for Straub, who also is in football and basketball.

“It’s very hard,” he said. “I went from lifting and basketball right to baseball.”

Straub said next season’s team will be “very young” but there will be a lot of returning players.

“We need to be working as a team,” he said, “and not have so many errors and other things.”
