Reed City pitcher looking for solid senior season

REED CITY — Jules Griffin is in her fourth and final season as a Reed City pitcher, and is ready to have her best year.

A year ago, Griffin led the Coyotes on the mound with an 11-9 record. She struck out 72 batters in 112 innings, while also batting .313 with 27 hits and 15 RBI.

When the 2015 season ended, Griffin kept working to get ready for 2016.

“I’ve been pitching a lot and I’m ready to take on this season,” she said.

The Coyotes were competitive in 2015, but Griffin was hoping for more.

“I think we could have gone further and made it out of districts,” she said. “I think we’ll make up for that this year.”

Griffin indicated her changeup will be a strength of her pitching.

“I’ve been working on that a lot and it’s looking good,” she said. “I’ll be better at offspeed, for sure, and accuracy, for sure.

Reed City opens the season with five straight home games: April 12 (Evart), April 14 (Cadillac), April 15 (Tri County), April 19 (Manton) and April 20 (White Cloud).

“I think we’ll be pretty good defensively and offensively,” Griffin said. “We’ll hit the ball pretty hard this year.”

Griffin has confidence in her offense.

“Watching the ball and keeping my head down,” will be critical to having a strong season at the plate, she said.
