REED CITY — The summer softball season has ended for Reed City but incoming freshman Sidni Rushford is looking forward to the next time she’s on the diamond.

Rushford was the winning pitcher for the Rage, Reed City’s summer team, in the second of two games Thursday against Montabella in a doubleheader sweep, extending the winning streak to nine games. It was also the Rage’s final summer game.

“I played with Elite,” she said of a 14-and-under summer team out of Grand Rapids. “It went well. We ended up second place at one tournament. We played in a lot of hard divisions.”

Rushford had a chance to pitch for the Reed City team extensively this summer.

“It’s fun,” she said, adding that she progressed more as a pitcher this year than last season. “I had better control.”

Offensively, “I want to hit hard,” Rushford said, adding that the key to more offensive productivity will be “getting my hips through it.”

When next spring rolls around, Rushford feels she’ll be confident as a pitcher.

“We’re looking good,” she said. “We get to know each other a lot and it makes it easier to play.”

Rushford is also planning on doing cross country and basketball during her freshman season.
