REED CITY — Reed City junior Logan Straub has exchanged his basketball jersey for a baseball uniform in recent weeks.

But the multi-sport Coyote athlete and some of his basketball teammates might still be thinking of what might have been as they look back at the completed basketball season.

Reed City lost to Big Rapids in the district final, and the Cardinals proceeded to the state semifinal where they lost Friday to Stevensville Lakeshore. Reed City had defeated Harrison in the district semifinals prior to the setback to Big Rapids.

The Coyotes had an 11-day break prior to playing Harrison but still had a strong day. They showed more than enough energy in advancing to the district final.

“Our practices were way more intense,” Straub said.

The Coyotes entered the Big Rapids district game with a 13-8 record.

“We’re playing good, but we’ve been working on making our shots better and finishing on rebounding as a team,” he said.

The Coyotes had lost by close margins to Big Rapids during the regular season.

“We have to give it everything we’ve got,” Straub said. “We need to come all as a team.”

Straub felt he had a strong season and noted rebounding was a strong emphasis. The Coyotes didn’t beat Big Rapids in the district, but Straub and returning players will go at the Cardinals again for the 2016-17 season.
