Reed City junior giving volleyball team key plays

REED CITY —  Alexis VanEyk is in her first varsity season for Reed City’s volleyball squad while looking to keep improving and hitting peak performances by tournament time in November.

The Coyote junior has been seeing action at rightside blocker for her team and also hits from that spot.

“She’s been coming to serve for us as well,” Reed City coach Don Patterson said. “Her serve is coming along.”

VanEyk came up from the junior varsity squad and acknowledges she continues to work on the transition.

“The speed of the game is quite a bit different,” Patterson said. “It takes a little while. I think this is a team where pretty much everyone is progressing. We’re significantly better than we were the first game of the year.

“We’re still looking for a little bit of offense here and there. Defensively, we’re starting to come together. We’re starting to serve better and more consistent.”

Reed City will be at Central Montcalm next Tuesday in conference action.
