REED CITY – Katelynn Holmes had an outstanding season at the net for Reed City’s volleyball team.

It ended too early with a 3-2 loss to Chippewa Hills on Thursday in the district at Shepherd.

Holmes was a senior leader for the Coyotes but also an outstanding hitter and blocker. She also helped the team in digs.

A highlight was a quad at Big Rapids late in the season. Reed City lost to two other opponents in the quad but came back for a 2-1 win over the Cardinals.

“We started out a little slow but when we played Big Rapids, our communication skills increased a little bit,” she said.

Holmes was a key returner from last year.

“We are doing pretty well under the circumstances,” she said. “We’ve had kids in and out (with health issues).”

It was Holmes fourth year on the varsity and her best one. She was a middle hitter this year.

“I like it,” she said. “You have to know where the block is at and try to hit around the block and see what’s open. I’m starting to know the spots that are open and place it well.”

The BR win was a highlight and also some strong tournament wins.

Volleyball has been Holmes’ only sport but a very strong one for the Coyotes who will miss her talents next season.
